Vietnamese pottery and handicrafts can bring strong material character to gardens, hospitality projects, retail collections and residential interiors. Handmade products naturally vary, but “handmade” should not become an excuse for unstable dimensions, weak construction, unsuitable finishes or inconsistent packing.

Define the intended use first

Confirm whether the item is decorative only, a functional planter, an indoor container or suitable for outdoor exposure. Ask about drainage holes, liners, frost or ultraviolet exposure, water contact, food contact where relevant, and whether colour or finish may change naturally over time.

Pottery checks

• External dimensions, internal opening and usable planting volume.
• Base flatness, stability and finished weight.
• Wall thickness, rim finish and visible cracking.
• Glaze coverage, colour range and acceptable pinholes or handmade marks.
• Drainage-hole size and position.
• Whether a saucer, plug, liner or protective feet are included.

Woven and natural-fibre checks

Confirm the fibre or synthetic material, frame construction, moisture tolerance, colourfastness, load capacity and cleaning method. Check weave tension, loose ends, rim reinforcement and whether the internal structure can carry the intended plant or insert. Natural fibres may move, fade or weather; the acceptable range should be agreed before ordering.

Control colour and handmade variation

Approve physical samples where possible and define an acceptable range rather than relying on one photograph. Record finish, colour, dimensions and known handmade characteristics. For repeat orders, keep a controlled reference sample and compare production batches before shipment.

Packaging is part of product quality

Large or fragile décor can arrive unusable if carton strength, dividers, edge protection, moisture protection and pallet or crate loading are weak. Confirm packing quantity, carton dimensions, gross weight, drop protection, nesting method and replacement process for transit damage. Timber packaging must meet the destination’s import requirements.
